What Is Chemical Sensitivity?
Living with chemical sensitivity means more than avoiding strong smells. It’s about navigating a world full of invisible exposures and trying to feel safe in your own body.
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is a chronic condition in which individuals experience symptoms from exposure to common chemicals, often in amounts that don’t affect others. These triggers may include synthetic fragrance, cleaning products, air fresheners, fresh paint, pesticides and more.
Even brief exposure can lead to debilitating symptoms like:
Headaches or migraines
Trouble breathing
Brain fog or dizziness
Skin reactions or rashes
Anxiety or mood shifts
And for some, the reaction can last days.
Why It’s Often Overlooked
In fact, according to a national survey:
12.8% of U.S. adults report medically diagnosed MCS
25.9% experience fragrance sensitivity
